Simulating reservoir operations with fixed time steps can lead to inaccuracies, especially when modeling highly responsive hydraulic structures like spillways. Traditional methods assume constant outflow over an entire timestep, which can cause unrealistic oscillations and instability during flood events. This webinar introduces GoldSim’s dynamic time-stepping approach, which overcomes these limitations by automatically adjusting timestep size based on system conditions. You’ll learn why conventional level-pool routing falls short for dynamic models and how adaptive time control gives us more accurate results.

In this session, we’ll demonstrate practical techniques for implementing adaptive timestep logic in GoldSim, including event detection using stock tests and expressions that respond to reservoir state. By combining these features, you can build models that run under stable conditions yet switch to fine resolution during hydraulic events. Join us to see how this method improves stability, prevents overshoot errors, and delivers realistic results for interconnected water systems.
