Like many other companies, all of us here at GoldSim have been working remotely for the past five months and we have not been idle!  In this newsletter, we discuss some of the things we have been working on, as well as other items of interest.  Stay well!

GoldSim 12.1.5 has been released

This update includes many corrections, reliability improvements and general user-interface enhancements. All of the updates are described in detail in the Release Notes. Models saved in GoldSim 12.1 will be seamlessly upgraded when opened in GoldSim 12.1.5. All users with access to 12.1 are strongly advised to update to this version.  The process will take only a few minutes.  You can download this update here.

This will likely be the last release of GoldSim 12.1 before our next major release (12.5).  We have been working very hard on this, and are hoping to release it in late 2020.

GoldSim Contaminant Transport Module Online Course

As many of you may know, several years ago, we posted our free online GoldSim Course. This Course has been tremendously popular, with almost 900 registered users (and an uncounted number of users who took the Course without registering - registration is optional). The Course, however, only covers the basic GoldSim framework, and does not discuss any of the specialized modules. Many people have expressed interest in a Course on the Contaminant Transport (CT) Module. Over the last several months, we have started to work on this new Course. This will be a long-term project which we are hoping to finish by the end of the year. But in order to provide some useful material for users in the meantime, we plan to post excerpts on our blog from time to time as we progress through the development of the Course.

Recommendations for Creating a GoldSim Style Guide

If you build (or have others build) multiple GoldSim models in your organization, it is strongly recommended that you use a common set of styles, naming conventions, rules for organizing and documenting models and other modeling conventions when building your models. This ensures consistency, makes it easier for others to understand your models, and makes it much easier for you to reuse model components. There is no one correct set of standards and conventions.  The key is consistency across your models. The best way to achieve this is to create an internal GoldSim Style Guide. To assist in this, we have compiled our thoughts and recommendations for creating a GoldSim Style Guide.  It provides a number of recommendations and alternatives that you can use to create a document for your organization.

Linking GoldSim to Muk3D for Representing Tailings Storage Facilities

One of the more difficult problems faced when creating a mine water balance model is dealing with the dynamically changing nature of the geometry of tailings storage facilities (e.g., storage-elevation and storage-surface area curves for the ponds are required for a water balance). Muk3D by Minebridge is a powerful modeling and planning tool for such facilities.  Moreover, they have detailed instructions for linking Muk3D and GoldSim.
