Description
This simple model simulates how an infection propagates through a population. It is based on an example from the book ´Business Dynamics´ by John Sterman. In this particular model, it is assumed that 1) a single affected person enters the population; 2) infected individuals always recover; 3) recovered individuals are immune from reinfection. The model tracks the size of the susceptible, infected, and recovered populations as a function of time. The download actually includes two separate models: one in which the problem is modeled continuously (in the same manner as the textbook), and one in which it is modeled discretely (using GoldSim's discrete event features). In this case, the latter actually provides a better solution for low population values.
